Notes from the Bludhouse
I don't know what it is about Browncoats (otherwise known as Firebronies), the hardcore fans of Joss Whedon's Firefly, that causes me to revel in their suffering. I like Joss Whedon. I loved Buffy. Loved Avengers. Loved Dr. Horrible. And I know the pain of loving a show that was prematurely canceled after one season, knowing that there was so much potential for storytelling in that universe that I'll never get to experience, because I loved Freaks and Geeks. But when I see Browncoats, all having their tenth anniversary panels and trying to raise money to buy the show to give it to Nathan Fillion, I just point and laugh. Why? Maybe I'm an asshole. Maybe I'm a sociopath who can't feel any sympathy, even when I can directly relate to the circumstances of someone else's pain, if it doesn't affect me directly. Or maybe it's because you have to laugh at misfortune if you want to overcome it. That's what I'm gonna go with, because it doesn't make me look like an awful human being.
I can't speak for Jon though, who wrote this strip. He probably is a sociopath. And a jerk. Send your hatemail to him, Firebronies.
